Don’t Kill The Messenger

To a degree that many “progressive” people are unwilling to admit, the drubbing Ralph Nader has received for his latest quixotic tilt at the Presidency is shameful. This is very different from the shame ascribed to him for the “support” his candidacy has elicited in some of the country’s more conservative quarters. Such support comes clearly from a cynical, calculating mindset well-versed in the hoary necessities of American electoral politics; it is therefore both expected and unremarkable.

Someone Has To Pay Retail

According to the secretary of defense, in an Op-Ed piece published in yesterday’s New York Times, the REAL reason for the United States’ “adventure” in Iraq (able now, finally, on the one-year anniversary of its onset, to be revealed): is that Baghdad might ­some fifty years hence- be like Seoul, Korea.

They finally bagged the Butcher of Baghdad. Let’s hear, once again, three cheers for the Red, White and Blue. Seriously, this is a historic event for which the brave men and women of the United States’ Armed Forces deserve the commendation of all freedom-loving people in this world, not to mention the eternal gratitude of the long-suffering citizens of Iraq.

A Little Bit Of Soul

I spent much of the weekend soul searching after getting a scathing response to my pre-war “Moment of Truth” piece from an old and dear friend, who questioned my standing to dissent from the wisdom of our nation’s ruling cabal and averred it is I who am “smug and narrow-minded” in failing to admit the necessity of going to war in Iraq at this time.
